    HOW TO GET A PA MEDICAL CARD

    Step 1: Book An Appointment With CCC

    Schedule an appointment with CCC to meet virtually with a certified PA MMJ doctor at a time that is most convenient for you. You will need to provide medical documentation for your qualifying condition, as well as a current PA state ID or driver’s license. You’ll also need to set up an account with the Department of Health prior to your first appointment – our team will give you all the details!

    Step 2: Talk to Your Certified Physician

    You’ll meet with your certifying physician virtually via video chat or in-person at our Butler location. During the appointment, the doctor will thoroughly discuss your medical condition, symptoms, and any current or previous medications you’ve used. Together, you’ll create a personalized MMJ treatment plan tailored to your needs.

    *Patients who prefer an in-person certification can schedule an appointment in our main Butler office location, available on Tuesdays. Please call us at 888-316-9085 for appointment availability and scheduling.

    Step 3: Get Your Card!

    Once approved by a certifying physician, you’ll log back into your Department of Health account, and pay your $50 state fee. The PA Department of Health will then send you the physical ID card in the mail. Once in hand, you can visit and purchase MMJ from any dispensary in the state of PA!

    Patients are required to renew their license annually by consulting with a licensed physician again. CCC will reach out to you as your annual certification expiration approaches to assist you with scheduling your renewal appointment.

    Does CCC provide virtual visits and telemedicine services?

    Yes! We provide easy and convenient virtual appointments through our state-of-the-art telemedicine platform. At CCC, your privacy and care is our top priority. That’s why we use industry-leading software to ensure all patient appointments are private and we adhere to strict HIPAA security requirements.

    Is MMJ legal in Pennsylvania?

    Yes, MMJ is legal in Pennsylvania. The state legalized MMJ in April of 2016 with the passing of the MMJ Act, allowing patients with qualifying conditions to register for and access MMJ products from dispensaries licensed by the state.

    Who can participate in the PA MMJ Program?

    Pennsylvania residents with an approved serious medical condition listed below can be certified by a doctor to participate in the PA MMJ Program. If you believe you have an approved serious medical condition, contact the CCC team by calling 888-316-9085 or register online.

    What do I need when applying for a Medical Card in PA?

    To apply to get a PA Medical Card, you will need a valid PA ID, such as a driver’s license, along with medical documentation verifying your qualifying condition. Need help? We offer an affordable evaluation service based on your condition.

    How much does it cost to apply for a PA Medical Card?

    • Initial doctor visits are $150.
    • Every year, you need to return to CCC to renew your PA Medical Card for a $125 fee.
    • There is also a $50 fee to register with the state.

    Do I need a referral from a MMJ doctor in PA?

    • No, you can schedule an appointment with us to receive your certification, insurance does not cover PA Medical Card appointments as it’s still considered federally illegal in the United States.
    • While many patients come to us already with a diagnosis from another physician, CCC offers an affordable evaluation service based on your condition. Ask our patient care staff for more details.

    How often do I need to renew my PA Medical Card?

    PA Medical Card Patients will need to renew their license annually by consulting with a licensed physician again. CCC will contact you as your annual certification expiration approaches to assist you with scheduling your renewal appointment.

    What types of MMJ products are available in PA?

    The Pennsylvania MMJ Program has approved the following methods of consumption for patients. While there are more ways to consume MMJ, patients are only legally permitted to do so in PA under the following methods:

    • Sublingual (placed under the tongue): Oils and Tinctures
    • Oral: Pills or Capsules
    • Inhaled: Extracts or Vapes
    • Topicals: Creams or Patches

    Can I grow my own plants with a PA Medical Card?

    No. In Pennsylvania, you cannot legally grow your own plants, even if you have a PA Medical Card. The MMJ Act in Pennsylvania does not permit patients to cultivate their own plants.

    Can I travel out of state with MMJ or access another state's dispensaries?

    • No, as a Pennsylvania Medical Card, you cannot legally travel out of state with MMJ, nor can you access dispensaries in other states.
    • Each state has its own laws regarding MMJ, and Pennsylvania’s MMJ program does not extend beyond its borders.
    • Transporting MMJ across state lines is illegal, even if you have a valid PA Medical Card.

    If the patient is a minor or homebound, can they get MMJ in PA?

    • Patients under 18 years old CAN be certified to use MMJ if they have any of the state’s qualifying conditions. They also must have a caregiver who is approved by the department of health in order to obtain MMJ.
    • A “caregiver” who is designated by the patient and approved by the department will be able to obtain MMJ from an approved dispensary located in the commonwealth that has a validly issued permit from the department in order for the caregiver to deliver MMJ to the patient.

    Will I need a PA Medical Card if recreational use is approved in PA?

    • Yes, if recreational products are approved for use in Pennsylvania, you would still need a PA Medical Card to access MMJ.
    • While recreational laws would mean that recreational product use is legal for adults in the state, the state MMJ Program would likely continue to operate separately, providing additional benefits and access to MMJ products for patients with qualifying conditions, such as stronger and more rigorously tested products.
